SECTION 1807.3.1

FLOORS

Floors required to be waterproofed shall be of concrete and designed and constructed to withstand the hydrostatic pressures to which the floors will be subjected.

CODE INTERPRETATION

This section implies that all floors that require waterproofing shall be constructed of concrete and shall be of structural integrity to withstand hydrostatic pressure.

The waterproofing applied to the floors shall consist of one of the following membranes:

  • Rubberized asphalt
  • Butyl Rubber
  • Fully adhered/HDPE
  • 6-mil+ polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

The membrane joints shall be lapped a minimum of 6 inches and shall be applied in accordance with the membrane manufacturers latest printed requirements.

DAMPPROOFING AND WATERPROOFING

SECTION 402.1.1

INSULATION AND FENESTRATION CRITERIA

The building thermal envelope will meet the requirements of Table 402.1.1 based on the climate zone specified in Chapter 3 of the IECC.

CODE INTERPRETATION

This code implies that there are prescribed thermal R-values for residential ceilings. The R-value is based on the climate zones identified within the International Energy Conservation Code.

Note: 402.1.2 R-value computation indicates that R-value shall be based solely on insulating material and shall not include other building materials or air films.
